If your deck gets several hours of direct sun a day, you can grow vegetables in containers: nurseries and garden centres will be able to tell you which varieties are best suited for this purpose. If you really don’t have much space, try a vertical layout, placing potted plants and herbs on shelves or a bookcase.

Installing a trellis, blinds or curtains can give you a lot more privacy on your deck or balcony. A trellis can also be used as support for a climbing plant or flowering vine.

Outdoor lighting and lamps come in a wide range of shapes, sizes and colours: it’s a great way to lend your outdoor space some character.
